Registration

Registration is done online through Events Online. Click here to register for the 2008 Yukon River Trail Marathon.

What are the race categories?

The race categories are full marathon, half marathon, 2-person relay and 4-person relay. For the 2-person relay, the first runner runs legs 1 & 2 and the second runner runs legs 3 & 4. Each team member must register, and all members of the team will need to identify the name of their team when they register.

Teams of 3 people can run the 4-person relay. However, the on-line registration only allows a runner to sign up for one leg. When you pick up your race package, please let the organizers know which team member is running two legs.

Please note that only total time, not interval times, will be available for the 2 and 4 person relays.

What are the age categories?

There are 3 age categories based on the runner’s age on race day:

When is parental consent required?

For the 2008 event, only runners aged 14 years or older on race day are eligible to register. Parental consent is required for all runners below the age of 19 years on race day. Young runners can register on line, but must submit a signed hard copy of the parental consent form (found here) when they pick up their bibs. Please note that bib packages will not be handed out unless parental consent forms are handed in for each runner under the age of 19.

How do I register?

On-line registration opens the first week of May – the link at the top left of this page takes you to the on-line registration service. Every runner must register individually. If you are a member of the 2 or 4 person team, there is a place on the registration site for the name of your team. The race fee are payable on-line by credit card. On-line registration is available until Wednesday, July 30th. We encourage all runners to register on-line and to take advantage of the reduced fee by registering before Tuesday, July 1st.

Runners can also register in person at the bib pickup which takes place at Sports Life, 305 Main Street on Friday, August 1st from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, August 2, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Race fee is payable by cash or cheque only – no credit cards payments can be made.

What are the fees?

The regular fee is $55.00 CDN; early birds who register before Tuesday, July 1st are charged the reduced rate of $45.00 CDN. The regular fee compares favorably with fees charged for other running events. For example, the early registration fees for the Royal Victoria Marathon and Mayor’s Marathon in Anchorage are $75.00 US and $55.00 US. Regular fees are $100.00 US and $75.00 US.

Your race fee covers the costs of the “take home” (usually a garment with a retail value of about $50.00 CDN), bibs and pins, on-course food, insurance, sound systems, tents, and a myriad of other items that make the race both fun and safe.

We are sometimes asked why the fee is the same for marathoners, half-marathoners, and relay runners. The reason is simple: our costs are the same regardless of the distance you run.

What about refunds and changes?

There will be no refunds of registration fees. Registered runners who cannot run can however pick up their race package.

A $10.00 CDN fee will be charged if a runner wants to change race categories (for example, from marathon to half-marathon) and if a runner substitutes for someone who has already registered for a relay event.

When and where do we pickup the race package?

Bib pick-up and orientation takes place on Friday, August 1 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday, August 2 from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM at Sports Life located at 305 Main Street in Whitehorse. There will be no bib pick-up at Rotary Park on race day.

How are the shirts sized?

Shirts are gender-specific, and will be assigned by order of entry into the race. We order the shirts well in advance of registration, before we know the requested shirt sizes of runners, and have to estimate how many of each size we will need. By registering early, you will have the best chance of receiving your requested size. Anyone registering by Tuesday, July 1st will be guaranteed to receive the shirt size requested.

Is there an awards ceremony?

Because of our real-time information system, running times are available soon after the race closes at 2:30 PM. Top three finishers in each of the race-age categories will be announced in Rotary Park.

At this time, runners and supporters can purchase food, salad, and drinks. Even though the BBQ is a fund raiser for the Ski Patrol, prices are low (under $10.00 CDN) and a vegetarian option is available.
